Naomi Sims died of breast cancer at age 61 on August 1, 2009. Ms. Sims was often referred to as the first Black Supermodel. Her appearances on magazine covers throughout the 60's, were regarded as endorsements for the "Black is Beautiful" slogan. Naomi Sims was not only a model, she was an entrepreneur. She had a multi-million dollar hair and cosmetics line. Plus, wrote several books.
